Wheelyscience

About this site

Wheelyscience joins others in the mission of reducing the gap between science and society. With Wheelyscience I aim to create a space for me and for other scientists to share their science and science life stories. Using graphical abstracts and short videos, I hope to bring my research to a broader audience. Through blogs by me and others, I want to build a place for sharing and discussing thoughts and contemplations, as an echo to the many voices in science.

About the author

I was born and raised in Lima, Peru. After obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the Ricardo Palma University, I moved to the Netherlands to perform the Master’s program Molecular Mechanisms of Diseases. Through internships in the Netherlands and in USA, I strengthened my knowledge in molecular biology and human genetics, and their application to research of human diseases. I later applied this knowledge into translational research in genitourinary cancers during my Ph.D. trajectory at the department of Urology from the Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences. My postdoctoral track was done at the department of Molecular Biology at Radboud University where I work in integrating data from multiple omic technologies for the comprehensive analysis of biological processes such as differentiation in mouse-small intestinal organoids.
Since April 1st I established my own research group at the department of Urology from Radboudumc, where I bridge different study fields (i.e. medical, cellular, molecular, computational biology) towards the common aim of understanding the molecular underpinnings of genitourinary cancers. This, in hope of providing the tools for the development of alternative therapeutic strategies for this diseases.

More about the author

Singing and playing musical instruments fill up most of my time. I have been part of international choirs such as the Penn’s University Choir in Philadelphia, the student choir Alphons Diepenbrock and the Bachkoor both in Nijmegen.
I also enjoy photography and video editing. In general, the arts and crafts are very much my thing.
Over the last few years, biking has become my regular weekend activity.
And, as any other Peruvian, food is my sport.
